The origins go back to 1932, the date of inauguration "Association of Propriotors and friends of Nieuwpoort Bain" (APANIB) the objects were the promotion and development of Nieuwpoort Bain in regard of tourism in general and including water sports. 1932 : The YCN (Yacht Club Nieuwpoort) was a local extension of the R.Y.C.O. (Royal Yacht Club Ostende) 1933 : The YCN was officially recognised by the Belgian Royal Federation of Yachting 1936 : Foundation of a new associatoin named "Yacht Club of Niewpoort" 1937 : The YCN became totally independant, and broke its' ties with the R.Y.C.O. but continued its sporting cameraderie  as before. (a letter dated 5/6/37 confirms this).                                                                         In the beginning the Y.C.N. had 20 members and 10 boats. A substantial Capital sum was underwritten by several members for the construction of a Club House and storage facility. 1939 :  A new Club House was built on the banks of the river (Opened 15th. August ). 1940 :  Membership risen to 113 members.                                                                                             During the war years 1940 - 1945, the YCN went into hibernation. After the war, the YCN started up again under new Articles in 1948 (3/4/48 No. 777) 1954 :  200 Members and 50 boats. 1965 :  Name changed to Yacht Club Nieuwpoort 1966 :  400 Members and 380 boats. 1971 :  The YCN moved to new buildings : a new Club House was built on the "island" Krommehoek. The  Club was honoured by the presence of H.R.H.
