NOTICE OF RACE
|

The race is open to all IRC Classes.
Times are local summer time ( GMT + 2 )
The event is organised by the Koninklijke Yacht Club Nieuwpoort (K.Y.C.N )
in collaboration with Duck Sailing and the city of Nieuwpoort.
1. Rules
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 (RRS) and :
- The IRC rules
- The Classes rules of Class 40, Mini 6.5, Pogo, Jod, Figaro ... when applicable
- The ORC special regulations ( Cat 3 )
- This notice of race
- The sailing instructions
2. Advertising
Rules provided by current ISAF Racing Rules about advertising shall apply.
The race is considered as a category “C” event
Race sponsor's flag will be provided, and shall be flown from the backstay at all times during the race.
Class and sponsor's flags shall be flown at level above that of the upper lifelines.
Bow stickers will be provided and every effort shal be made to retain them on the bows. Race sponsor's battle flags will be provided, and shal be flown from the forestay while berthed in the KYCN marina and during the exit of the harbour. A competitor may not protest this requirement.
3. Eligibility and entry
The Regatta is open to all yachts of IRC Class 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6
Following the IRC rating, ( < or > 0,945 ) 2 different routes are foreseen.
Minimum 2 people on board.
All competitors must comply with all the rules provided by their National Authority about Sailing licences
Entries start on 27th October 2007 and close on Sunday 15th June 2008.
All forms will be available on the web site www.channelrace.be
Entry process will be considered valid while :
Entry form with a copy of the- measurement certificate and insurance policy are sent by email info@channelrace.be or by fax at +32 2 346 47 39 and paiement of at least the boat entry fee + 2 crew entry fees is made
Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the organizing authority.
Inspection & safety control at the KYCN
- On Wednesday 2nd July from 10.00 till 20.00 hrs
- On Thursday 3rd July from 10.00 till 20.00 hrs
- On Friday 4th July from 10.00 till 16.00 hrs.
All boats must be available for safety controls during these periods.
4. Classification
No Special rule
5. Fees
Required fees are as follows :
- 200€ for non sponsored boat if entry payment made before 01/05/2008 otherwise 250€
- 300€ for sponsored boat if entry payment made before 01/05/2008 otherwise 350€
- 50 €/ crew (including both crew dinner and closure dinner).
6. Qualifying series and final series
No special rule
7. Schedule
- Measurement and registration : Wednesday 2nd July as from 10.00 hrs till Friday 4th July 16.00 hrs
- Crew dinner : Friday 4th July at 20.30 hrs
- Crew breakfast on Saturday morning
- Skipper & meteo Briefing : Saterday 5th of July at 11.00 hrs
- First warning signal on Saturday 5th July at 15.50hrs
- Arrival crew dinner : Saturday 12th of July at 19.00 hrs
- Prize giving : Foreseen before the closure dinner on Saturday 12th July at 19.00 hrs in the Clubhouse of the KYCN.

9. Sailing instructions
General Sailing Instructions are governed under the IRC rules. Additional Sailing Instructions will be handed over as from the 2nd July 2008 while entry process completed
10. Venue
Location of the regatta harbour: KYCN Nieuwpoort.
Location of the racing area : See below chapter 11.
11. The courses
2 courses are foreseen:
- Course 1: Open to all boat with a TCC > 0.945
Offshore Race: approximately 520 miles Nieuwpoort - Isle of Wight - Channel Islands - Nieuwpoort
- Course 2 : Open to all IRC boat: Nieuwpoort - Isle of Wight - Nieuwpoort with a mandatory 12 hours stop at Cowes
First warning signal on Saturday 5th July at 15.50 hrs
12. Penalty system
An international Jury will be appointed and his decision will be final.
13. Scoring
General scoring and scoring by classes if there are 5 or more entries will be calculated ( Bonus Point System )
14. Support boats
Support boats shall be marked with orange flags
15. Berthing
In the harbour of the KYCN, yachts shall be moored under the responsibility of the owner or the skipper.
Boats will benefit from free mooring in the KYCN harbour from Wednesday 2nd July until Monday 14th July 2007. Discount on mooring (20%) will be applicable around those dates.

18. Radio communication
Contacts by telephone or E-mail are authorised between competitors in so far as the contents of these contacts does not include personalised assistance in order to improve the performance of the boat and/or the skipper.
In the area of Newhaven, Wight, Channel island, Cherbourg , Boulogne, and Dunkerque, competitors shall inform the Race Committee by telephone or by E-mail their position and a rapid description of their state of health and that of the boat.
19. Prizes
Trophies are for corrected time results except where stated.
- Channel Race Trophy Best overal (route 1)
- Channel Race Cup 2nd Best overall (route 1)
- Channel Raceke Cup: First yacht at Oostende mark (route 1 & 2)
- Mini Channel Race Trophy Best overal (route 2)
- Mini Channel Race Cup 2nd Best overall (route 2)
20. Disclaimer of liability
In accordance with the ISAF Rules , Appendix K , § 26
21. Insurance
Each participating boats shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of € 1.000.000,00.
