A peninsula with a history
Welcome to our home port, our peninsula, our Kromme Hoek. A unique environment where sport, friendship and youth are central, where across generations we work together on the future with respect for our rich past.
As Commodore I am proud of the large family that our members form.
Baudouin Meyhui - Commodore
Yacht club since 1932
KYCN was founded in 1932 and is therefore one of the oldest Belgian Yacht Clubs. In 1938, the first Clubhouse was erected along the IJzer. This Clubhouse was recently donated to the Nieuwpoort Sea Scouts. In 1971, through the then Commodore Paul Orban, a new clubhouse was erected at the Kromme Hoek, where once the Vierboete marked the safe haven. Thus began the KYCN story on the peninsula. Since 2006, Baudouin Meyhui has been at the helm of the Board of Directors as Commodore. Numerous innovations have been made with a view to sustainability and ecological responsibility. The KYCN stands for Youth, Family and Sports.
The latter is reflected in the organisation of numerous championships. Belgian, European and World championships have already settled here. KYCN is also one of the founding members of the North Sea Championship.
Thanks to Zachte Kracht VZW, Force Douce ASBL and recently also Sail in Solidarity, the Koninklijke Yacht Club Nieuwpoort contribute to social projects.
With Zachte Kracht VZW, underprivileged youngsters from Youth Aid and Multifunctional Centres can enjoy themselves during organised sailing trips. Force Douce ABSL also organises sailing trips for young people. Especially young people with a medical background such as diabetes.
Finally, Sail in Solidarity strengthens other organisations. This organisation wants to give everyone their self-confidence back.
